My name is Amanda de Froberville and I'm on a mission to enrich your life with wonderfully unique, hand-crafted goods. I design the beautiful products you see here on Alleura Atelier.
I currently reside in Los Angeles with my French husband and our precocious little girl but before California and motherhood, we lived in Asia for many years. This treasured time in my life was full of travel and introduced me to an array of artisanal techniques I'd never seen before; styles of embroidery, block-printing, hand weaving (and that's just in textiles!). It's my aim to keep these dying traditional methods alive by producing items featuring their amazing details.
So who makes the items you see here? A portion of the jewelry is still made by me (that's how Alleura Atelier started - making a custom pearl necklace for a friend's wedding!). I also contract with small businesses and entrepreneurs, mostly in India where I lived for 4 years. Collaborating with a small number of producers allows me to not only form deeper relationships but also ensure those creating the items are paid a fair wage. Many of the artisans are women and these jobs give them independence and stability in a heavily male-dominated society.
While in India, I volunteered at an elementary school in Bangalore that gives free education to under-privileged children. Seeing the difference that schooling has on their lives, I've pledged 5% of Alleura's profits. Helping St. Mary's School reach their goal to provide cost-free education for these children through high school graduation is an important way to give them a better chance at life and lift up the entire community.
